Open the Teleprompter
There are two doors into the Teleprompter.
- From the sidebar: every logged-in user has Teleprompter in the left sidebar, in the Create section. Click it and you are ready to load a script.
- From the public page: there is a free page at scripthooks.ai/prompter that works without a login. It is a good link to hand to anyone who needs to read a script on camera.
Get your script in
There are three ways to get words on screen, and all of them keep your script on your own device. Nothing uploads.
- Paste it: drop in any text and start reading.
- Upload a file:
.txt,.md,.fountain,.pdf, or.docx, all parsed right in your browser. - Open a ScriptHooks script: pull in any script you have written, in one click.
Section labels like [HOOK] are stripped automatically, so only the words you actually speak end up on screen.
Set your pace and size
The scroll is paced in words per minute, so your runtime is predictable and it is shown to you before you start. Turn the WPM up or down until it matches how you actually talk, and set a text size you can read comfortably from where you sit. A fixed read line marks the spot your eyes should hold.
Then pick the mode that fits your setup:
- Mirror flips the text for beam-splitter teleprompter rigs.
- Single line scrolls one line left to right, like a ticker, so your eyes stay planted right beside the lens.
- Full screen gives you the whole display.
- Float is a small always-on-top window you drag under your webcam to prompt over Zoom, Riverside, or QuickTime (Chrome on the desktop).
Screen wake lock keeps your phone awake, so it will not sleep in the middle of a take while you are reading.
Record while you read
Turn on Record camera and the Teleprompter records you locally while your script scrolls. Choose your camera, your microphone, and your quality: the highest resolution the camera supports, 4K (2160p), 1080p HD, or 720p. The bitrate is matched to the resolution you pick, so HD and 4K takes actually look sharp.
Nothing uploads. When you stop, the take downloads straight to your device and the end screen confirms the filename, so you always know exactly which file you just captured.
Read it
Start the scroll and read at the read line. Tap the screen or press Space to pause and resume whenever you need a breath or a reset, and scroll with your finger or wheel to jump to any part of the script.
At the end, the text keeps rolling fully off the top like film credits before it stops, so your last line is never cut off in the middle of a thought.
Present a deck with it
The Teleprompter also lives inside Story Decks. In Present mode, a Prompter button turns your slides' speaker notes into a scrolling talk-track ribbon, and the deck advances itself slide by slide as you read. Arrow keys override the advance and Space pauses, so you always keep control.
If your notes are empty, the Write talk track button uses AI to write a presenter script into every slide's speaker notes. Pick a voice and tone, a length per slide, and optional timecodes, then present and just read. Everything else drives itself.
